The Best Way To Apply Eyeliner

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

There are different schools of thought when it comes to the best eyeliner application. Here’s what you need to know from my bridal makeup San Antonio experience!

To start out with, you don’t necessarily need to line your entire eye every time that you apply eyeliner. If you are trying to open up smaller eyes, then it helps to line only the outer corners of the eye. Regardless, make sure to smudge the eyeliner slightly so that it looks more subtle and blends in with your makeup.

Avoid lining the inner rim of your lower lash line because not only does it make your eyes look smaller, but it can also irritate your eyes and potentially cause infection. An easy way to use eyeliner is to dot it throughout the lash line subtly so that your eyelashes look fuller and your eyes stand out. Perfect for day wear!

Eyeliner may seem like a simple makeup application, but it helps to know what you are doing! Here are some easy tips from my wedding makeup San Antonio experience.

As a side note, you should be protecting your eye area with an SPF moisturizer that can smooth out and protect this delicate skin. Not only will this prevent damage, but it will help your makeup to go on more flawlessly.

Pencil eyeliners are the most popular type of eyeliner because they are easier to use to achieve your desired makeup look. Liquid eyeliners will require more practice, but they will often create a more precise look, such as a cat eye. It is also a wonderful idea to use an eye shadow pigment applied with a contour makeup brush for a very natural eyeliner application that is not too harsh.

If you have wider set eyes, then thicken the eyeliner on the inner corners of your eyes. If you have close set eyes, thicken your eyeliner on the outer corners to open up your eyes.
