Professional Makeup Tips Never To Forget

Monday, November 16th, 2009

For your everyday life, it is so helpful to use professional beauty advice for your makeup application. Here is what you need to know from my makeup artist San Antonio experience.

nataliaFirst of all, make sure that you are taking care of your skin. The better that your skin looks, the more flawless your makeup will look. It is necessary to moisturize, tone, and cleanse on a daily basis. You must moisturize regardless of your skin type. Even if you have oily skin, when you neglect to moisturize, it will dry out that oily skin and cause excess oil production as a result.

In your foundation application, the very best thing you can do for yourself is to choose the correct shade. Also, keep in mind that you will need to alter your shade as the seasons change, and your skin tone becomes darker or lighter.

Try a wet/dry application of the eye shadow colors that you already use for a new twist. Simply brilliant!

Top 5 Money Saving Makeup Tips

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

paletteMany beautiful ladies are feeling the recession, so why not save money on your makeup purchases? Here are some easy money saving makeup tips from my San Antonio bridal makeup experience.

1. If you are at the end of your tube of mascara and it is drying out, you can run it under hot water for a few minutes so that it applies well.
2. For at-home teeth whitening, you can brush with baking soda to see instant pearly results.
3. Instead of buying two different highlighters for your eyes and your face, you can use one all-purpose shimmer highlighter shade for both.
4. If you have old lipsticks, you don’t need to throw them away, but you can scrape them out of the tubes and put them into a palette to use as lip colors.
5. For cheap makeup brushes, consider purchasing them from a local craft store!

The Best Smoky Eye Alternative

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

A wonderful alternative to the traditional smoky eye using charcoal colors is to use a dark espresso eyeshadow pigment. Here’s how from my makeup San Antonio experience!

natalieEspresso colors work best for warmer skin tones, so start out your smoky eye by applying an eyeshadow primer to your eyelid.
• After that, use your makeup brush to sweep the deep espresso color all the way across your eyelid.
• Use your contour makeup brush to apply the espresso eyeshadow pigment to your lower lash line.
• Use a clean makeup brush or Q-tip to smudge the espresso color on your lower lash line to create the smoky look.
• Use a lighter brown or neutral color to blend the espresso eyeshadow up into your brow bone.
• Finish by using your contour brush to apply another line of eyeliner across your top lash line using the espresso eyeshadow pigment.

And there you have it – the espresso smoky eye made easy!

The Best Way To Apply Bronzer

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

For summertime, or any time of year, you definitely need to know how to apply bronzer to achieve the most natural and glowing look possible. Here are some easy tips from my makeup artist San Antonio experience!

First, exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! This is hugely important if you are using a sunless tanner or bronzer anywhere on your body because if you have flaky or dull skin, then it will look dark and uneven in certain areas with the definite outcome of streaking. Oh, no!

To get a beautifully glowing face that looks like you have spent a day in the sun (without the sun damage, of course), use a cosmetic sponge to apply sunless tanner to your entire face evenly. This should last for several days, so continue to moisturize well, and touch up your final look by dusting on a powdered bronzer with a fluffy brush.

When you apply the powdered bronzer, go over your cheek and nose area in one sweeping motion, and then lightly over your forehead and chin. This will look like the most even application, since this is where the sun normally hits your face.

Perfect for summertime!

Do You Need a Finishing Spray For Your Wedding Makeup?

Monday, July 13th, 2009

bridefaceSo you have the perfect wedding makeup application, and all you need is one last thing… a professional finishing spray? There are schools of thought that go back and forth on this matter, whether or not a pro finishing spray will do a great job for your makeup, so I’m going to give you some insider information, from my San Antonio bridal makeup experience.

First, there is a home remedy method where you can directly spray hairspray onto your face, with your eyes closed, of course, to set your makeup all day long. Perfect for wedding makeup! You may want to try this out before the big day to see how your skin responds to a spritz of hairspray, but it pretty much is foolproof.

Otherwise, you can definitely buy more professional makeup finishing sprays from places like Ulta or Skindinavia. Skindinavia has a great wedding makeup finishing spray option that is moisture resistant, so that is perfect if you are crying or sweating on your big day. Ulta has the Sue Devitt Microquatic Luminous Finishing Mist, which actually has anti aging ingredients and botanicals to keep your skin moisturized, as well as set your make up for the whole day.

So what is the best choice for you on your wedding day? It may be a great idea to use a makeup finishing spray to have a flawless final product, but keep in mind that a high quality makeup application should last you the whole evening long when done professionally!

natural

This is the perfect look for the summertime since you will be spending so much time out in the sun, at the beach, by the pool, etc. This is also great for any time of year if you are an all-natural, bohemian beauty who loves to look your best with less. The whole point of makeup anyway is to look as if you aren’t wearing any, so I am here to tell you how to use minimal makeup to look your best from my experience as a makeup artist in San Antonio.

  1. Begin with a clean face, and moisturize well.
  2. Use a tinted moisturizer all over your face to give even color.
  3. Use a brush to apply a color corrector underneath your eyes and on your eyelids to give an even shade to that area of your face so that you look fresh and awake. Make sure that it is a color that matches your skin tone, and blend well.
  4. Apply only mascara to make your eyes stand out for a minimal makeup look.
  5. Use a mineral makeup blush for the apples of your cheeks that is in a soft pink or peach, and apply in a swirling motion so that it blends well.
  6. For your lips, use a gloss or lip stain that will look completely natural and make your pout pop.

And that’s it! Even if you’re skeptical, give this a look at try because it uses a very minimal cosmetics to even out your skin tone, play up your best features, and make you look your best. Stunning for the summertime!

Easy Summer Makeup Look

metallic

If you are spending your days at the beach or the pool, or just hanging out around your house, it is important to utilize some easy summer makeup tips to make you look fresh and beautiful. I have them broken down for you from my experience in San Antonio wedding makeup. Here we go!

  • Eyes: Go for strong metallics and shimmers because they will best complement a tanner skin tone. You can even use a wet/dry makeup brush to apply the metallic shadow wet as a popping eyeliner.
  • Blush: Use a cream blush because it looks the most natural with your dewy summer skin. Apply it with clean fingers so that your body warmth can blend it better into your skin.
  • Foundation: Go for a tinted moisturizer so that you look the most natural on hot summer days. Mineral makeup also sits well and doesn’t smudge when you are out in the heat and sweating.
  • Lips: For a long lasting lip color for your times by the pool, use a lip stain that will stay on for a longer period of time. Apply a clear gloss to the center of your bottom lip to make your lips look pouty and fresh.
  • Bronzer: The best way to offset your tinted moisturizer on your face is to apply bronzer, preferably made from mineral ingredients, with a fluffy brush to your forehead, cheeks, and nose, where the sun would naturally hit your face.

Wasn’t that easy? With these simple makeup tips you will be looking fresh for the summer in no time!

The Hottest Summer Makeup Looks for 2009

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I am as ready as you are for more fun in the sun because summer is truly upon us. Now, before you begin wondering where to start on your summer makeup, here are a few summer makeup tips from myself, a San Antonio Makeup Artist to add to your bag of tricks for 2009.

  • Foundation: Start with a tinted moisturizer with an SPF so that you are getting natural coverage with the best dewy glow. If you do feel that your skin is too oily for just a moisturizer, then you can add a light powder foundation for a basic coverage.
  • Blush: In your summer beauty bag, pack sheerer blush options, like peaches and pinks that can go on lightly to give you that kissed by the sun splash of color. You may have heard it 100 times, but when you suck in you cheeks to apply blush, the color will go on more naturally to the apples of your cheeks.
  • Lips: You definitely want to go for poppy lip hues that work with a hydrated pout. Summer is a great time to use balms with sunscreens and then top with a light pinky hue to give you a fresh look.

Surfs up!
