How To Cover Blemishes

by Bethany on May 15, 2009

If you are looking for the best of the best in a final makeup application, then I am sure that you are wondering the correct way to cover any unsightly blemishes that may pop up around the time of your big event. As we all know, there always seems to be some sort of breakout related to stress, especially if you are getting your makeup done for your wedding day. That is why I have these expert tips for you from my experience as a professional in bridal makeup San Antonio for the best way to cover blemishes for good!

  • pimpleApply oil free foundation to the blemish with a concealer brush.
  • Focus on matching the skin tone exactly for the most natural cover up.
  • Do not use a concealer on the blemish because they usually all are a shade or two lighter than your skin, which will only draw attention to your breakout.
  • Lightly pat the area where you have applied the foundation to the blemish, but do not rub.
  • Blend in the application of the foundation directly around your blemish.
  • Apply powder to the blemish to set the cover-up.
  • You can then continue with your foundation application.

This is just one more stop on the journey to a flawless makeup application, so best of luck to you and your pretty face!

Hi Lala,

If you have burns to your lip and chin area, then you probably have dark brown spots of hyperpigmentation. It is best to use a cleanser with glycolic acid to remove that dark scarring, and also use mineral makeup for even coverage. You can blend your powdered mineral makeup foundation with water in your hand to work as a concealer. For very dark scarring, you can also use a color corrector, which provides the fullest coverage. Hope that helps! :)

would I use the same things if the burn marks are dark red and drying? I have to perform this weekend and my upper lip and chin area are really dark? Thank you so much for your time, you are the greatest.

Hi Lala,

Not a problem! Make sure that you moisturize the area well, and use the same concealer method, but use a green concealer to neutralize redness. There are green powdered mineral makeup concealers available, which I would recommend because they look natural. If they are dark scars, you can use a green color corrector to minimize redness, and then apply foundation over it. Good luck! :)

I was just wondering the best kind of makeup for my skin type; I have normal skin with random times of dryness and shine. When I wear makeup I use a foundation with a brush and then loose powder, but whenever I see myself in pictures or look in the mirror a few hours later, my skin is somewhat red. How do I keep my face looking fresh and new the entire day?

Hi Sara,

Thank you for your comment! First of all, are you moisturizing after EVERY time you cleanse? That will keep your skin in balance to prevent patches of dryness. Next, try a green mineral makeup veil color corrector before applying your foundation and loose powder. This green color corrector will settle loosely on your skin to neutralize redness all over. I recommend Luxury Minerals. :)

Yes I do use a moisturizer and thank you for the tips. I will certainly try that.
